fuel leaks................(+2's)

Hi guys.....
remember a while back (2-3 weeks ago) I asked how many of you
had +2's with the same fuel leak as me.........
when you went round a corner at speed you fuel left the tank
via the filler cap............!!!!!
well I drew up a 'bung' which can be dropped into the neck of
the tank.....I have had the prototype made out of aluminium and it
all fits rather well, however, its not yet been tested........
the guy who has made it has milled it and turned it probably
taking a couple of hours (now for the crunch) Its going to cost me
as yet I dont know how much, I'm thinking ?5-10, but hey I can loose
that much in fuel on a big roundabout...........
I know that there are a couple of you out there with the same problem
and if you let me know if your interested I could get him to quote for
a bulk order.....failing that if your all set up with lathe and milling
machine at home then I can post a drawing of the 'plug' on the
'lotuselan.net' pages...when I've proved that it works anyway......
let me know what you think........
cheers

I'd be interested to "see" it first - either in drawings or a photo.
Thanks!

I'd like to confirm as another person has that the center rubber hose
section inside the cap as well as the main seal MUST be in good shape for
the cap to seal properly. I have my filler neck off the car now as I'm
restoring the car and just replacing the main seal isn't good enough. After
replacing both seals I can now close the cap, turn the neck upside down, and
fill it with water with absolutely no leakage at all. I think making sure
that these seals are in good working condition is where someone should start
if they're having leaks out the cap.

can you expand on the "center rubber hose",does this seal the centre of the
plate that holds the main seal?
p.s.
does the holding plate have a pin-hole breather hole in it

Yes, behind the plate there's a rubber section of hose that seals the center
of the plate. As the plate is pushed back against the spring it makes
contact with this hose section. On mine the hose section was too short and
wasn't sealing. I replaced it with a hose section slightly longer and with
a thicker wall. I think the thicker wall was important.

Hi everyone
I've just discovered that the tank in my Plus 2 is leaking.
A faint petrol smell in the car (which is usually pretty fume-free)
made me have a look in the boot (trunk), and I found the tank is
corroded and weeping at the bottom corner.
I'm not corroded, but I do feel like weeping as I've spent quite a
lot
on the car this year,
Any thoughts as to what can be done?
Replacement? Refurbishment? By whom, and if so, how hard to drain and
remove the tank?
