Hollow bumpers

PostPost by: summerinmaine » Wed Nov 20, 2002 2:26 am

Hi Gary,

Well it certainly makes sense that the boot drain holes would have
been eliminated as superfluous, but I'm surprised about the fit, not
so much that it might have been changed, but that the change was not
reflected by a change to the part number prefix (e.g. 026Bxxxx to
036Bxxxx). Then again, I have one of the original parts lists, which
carries the bumper as 26 B 060, and the master list has it as A036 B
0060 (but lists that part for "all"). What is odd is that the master
list carries all four front bumpers under their separate part
numbers, with precise chassis number change points listed. Ah well,
ya gotta love 'em.

Roger,

I am glad you asked that. My bumpers are hollow as you describe.

Top ten reasons for not having foam in your bumpers

10. The mice nested in it while the bumper was sitting on the shelf
waiting to be installed.
9. It was a Monday and the foam guy had a hang over.
8. It was a Friday and the foam guy left early for the pub.
7. Foam, We don't need no stinking foam.
6. The new guy was never told to add the foam.
5. Chapman used it to stiffen one of the race cars bulkheads.
4. It was used to cushion parts that needed to be shipped to the
Formula 1 team at Monza.
3. The check for the last shipment of foam bounced so they were
waiting for another car order to pay for another shipment.
2. They could only afford to buy part A only to discover you needed
both parts A and B to make a batch.
1. It cost money and only has one function so Chapman cost reduced it
out of the car.

Not a very good top ten list. Maybe someone else can come up with better
ones...

to Lotus!
