Dag.
It looks like a quality job, are there any power figures?, the main
benefit looks to be the size of the valves, the standard single plug
is already in the ideal position for achieving a stable rapid and
complete flame front but it does restrict valve size.
It would also be interesting to see what the cooling is like, there
must be a reduction in surface area left around the valve seat
(running it rich would help keep these cool)

Regards
Kevin

Velly Intahlesting! You can easily see where the second plug's been welded in. What do they do for ignition? Dual dizzies? How do yo drive the 2nd one?

Kevin, - nothing available. My friend is reluctant to put any serious workinto the head, as a full valve job is required, - as well as some delicate welding around no 3 inlet valve seat as you can see from the pics.. It would have been fun , although you may well find yourself closer to crap thanjewelry..?? Guess the job was done when twink heads were i no short supply......(!?)

Good question- bad answer ; haven't got the faintest....! Where would you stick the 2nd dizzie...? How do Alfa Romeo drive their twin spark??
This engine was found in a barn, and nobody have ever seen it run, -or managed to get hold of PO. There aren't too many POs of twin spark twink headsin Norway any more........

I guess using modern technology it would be fairly straight
forward, (use a crank driven sensor and ingition module to fire 2 4
pack ford zetec coils or something similar). 15 years ago this
technology was not widely available, with twin distributors you would
never get the two plugs firing at the same time.
If you split the High tension from a single coil wouldn't the spark
tend to go down one plug or the other following the path of least
resistance?
The only way I can think of would be to modify the rotor arm and cap
such that you had two coils feeding two outputs at each point.

A local "classics" racer has converted his Porsche Carerra RSR to twin spark - he runs a Porsche 917 dizzy though
The technical editor of Cars & Car Conversions in the UK has done this on the 2 liter Ford Pinto (UK) engine but I think he was running EMS

They put a distributor on the end of each camshaft

I thought Alfa used something similar to the dizzy from the V8 Montreal
giving 8 HT leads from one dizzy located in the same place as the 'standard'
4 plug version. I have heard of some replica GTAs running around with modded
Montreal systems today. Not seen one so may just be a tall story.

Ther was a nifty red Alfa GTA coupe in racing trim on the Christy's
auction-block at Pebble Beach last year. It did have two plugs per cylinder;
so it isn't a tall tale.
