I always loved the look of the crinkled black Ansa-type rear mufflers with the chromed tips in 70's era cars. (Had one on my Fiat X1/9.) Did Ansa or Stebro make an exhaust specifically for the baby Elan? (If they once did, I don't think they make it now... however there are similar Ansa exhausts (rear black muffler and chrome tips) still available for other 70's era cars such as Triumphs and Toyotas.)

Does anyone know of an Ansa rear muffler made for another car that fits a baby Elan? Thanks.

Hi Gary,
What's a baby Elan? Do you mean Miata?

I'd be very interested in seeing if there was a supplier this side of the world....for my grown-up Elan

Sue Miller still had the twin pipe exhaust (standard) last time I spoke to her and I have been toying with the idea for a while.

But the pic above is a tempting alternative!

Didn't "Peco" do similar silencers?

Stebro does make mufflers for the ORIGINAL Elan.....

There is a single outlet version for the early cars, and a double outlet, like the Ansa, for the later cars. I have owned both versions over the years, possibly contributing to my hearing loss  You cut your existing mid pipe, and the muffler comes straight out the back.

They did I think, because I think the one on my Plus 2 is a Peco, could be wrong though. Came from Kelvedon apparently.

No idea if they did one for the Elan though.

The Peco was fitted to the last year or so of Plus 2 production, Robbie. You have a very rare survivor. Here's the Peco on my old black Plus 2...one of the last cars made. Not quite as shiney!

I have a brand new Stebro muffler for the Elan looking for a new home. Purchased from Stebro in 06 and never installed.
23" long & 2" inlet. Mounting tabs included. I felt it would be louder than I wanted as my hearing is sensitive.
It cost $375 USD. Now $250 + shipping in the USA or worldwide.

Ah, I see! Thanks Mark, I always wondered why all the contemporary pics I'd seen of the S/130 showed the smaller silencer. They were obviously not the later cars. I know it's not original (can't imagine there are any 37 year old silencers around!) as mine is a '72 model. The man who restored it bought it from Kelvedon in the early '90's and wasn't really impressed, saying it was too heavy. It is, but I like it. Just hoping it'll last a while as I don't think one can get them any more.

I noticed quite a few people peering under the back of my car at Donnington, obviously caused some interest!

Cheers

Robbie
