I picked up the January issue of Classic and Sportcar and found that a '73 Elan had sold at a Coys auction for roughly 29,000 pounds! I found the auction on the Coys site: http://www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php? ... 5&id=57413

Has anyone seen this car? Car should be no less than perfect for that kind of money.

Sorry if this was discussed earlier.

Not a '73 car. According to the VIN listed by Coys it was an early 1970 February car, unit no.0052 but oddly as a G, which is the UK domestic type, which of course should be in RHD.

S4 going for Sprint money apparently, though my belief is that the price gap is narrowing between good S4s and Sprints. In fact an outstanding Elan of any type seems to be making more money than say five years ago and not so many are coming to market. This reflects what seems to be happening in the classic car market in general. Are we heading for a price bubble again, much as we did in the early 1990s, only to see prices come back down to what some saw as more realistic levels, I wonder?

That looks like daft money to me for such a mongrel!

My guess is that as soon as interest rates start going up, the 'investors' will sell up and prices return to normal...whatever that is!
