Thank you Tim. But were S2 handbooks and service voucher books green?

Ken.

That's what I believe, hence the "I seem to recall they were green" in my post above.

Tim

Yes. They were green. I still have mine and it's very green.

ken ob wrote:Hi there,
Can anyone tell me please what the original colour should be on the cover of the following books which i am searching for? and also any other way to tell if something is original or copied?

All for 1965 Elan S2;
Drivers handbook.
Service voucher book.
Workshop manual.
Master parts list.
Many thanks, Ken.

My July '65 S2 had one owner till recently, it came with most/all of the original documentation.

- The Owners Instructions / Handbook is black and white.
- The Service voucher booklet has a black and white cover.
- I also have a sales leaflet which is black and white and the same size as the handbook and service voucher book
- The 'Elan Test Certificate' is the same size as the above three

I guess all four were meant to be put together...or Lotus had bought a job lot of cheap 8 x 5 inch paper. If anybody is interested I'll try and scan and post them.

I have been lucky enough to find and buy 3 out of the 4 books i needed.
I now only need the service voucher book.

While searching for the books I purchased one handbook with a black and white cover ( this looks so perfect and unused that i assume it is a copy ), and another handbook with a green cover ( this looks correct with slight wear ).
Both books have the same photo on the front cover - side view of Elan with man at wheel and girl on bonnet.

Ken,

I'd like to see that photo, if possible.

Yes, I'd be interested in seeing/learning more about the 'Elan Test Certificate'.

Cheers both - rd

Here are a few I've just dug out of the box!
The S2 one is the black and white booklet, which I'm afraid is the only re-print there. I would assume that the green S2 one mentioned above is the original print.

If something doesnt run on or in oil i am lost!!

Thankyou guys,

It's just that I've never seen that cover photo before..."Owners Instructions"? What were Lotus thinking?

I did, however, know a girl who was once on a bonnet...but that was for a TOTALLY different reason!

Cheers - rd

1965 - people were very 'proper' then.

1965...girl on bonnet...you don't think that's where people got the idea from...no...

Now your talking Mark!!!!!! Best parts I have seen in a manual for sometime, or is a cover of a manual?
My Elite manual sure doesn't look like that either, must have been a speacial run.

Thanks
