Hi all, My name is David Birchall and I am in Vancouver, Canada.
I used to own two 26Rs--26R5 and 26/S2/18 back in the eighties. Regrettably I sold both back then ....I subsequently owned a racing Elan in the nineties but let that slip away too. Slow learning curve.
I would like to get in touch with Ian Hebblethwaite in South Africa-can somebody supply me with an email address? He has knowledge of a car I am interested in.

Many thanks, David B

"Ian Hebblethwaite"
Sounds like a fictional character dreamed up by "The two Ronnies"
anyone for Cucumber sandwiches?
Errm sorry for that, I tend to do it a lot. Wish I could help; anyhow good luck in you quest :)

I expect you're very, very sorry about selling those fantastic Elans, must be heartbreaking
John

I think you may be getting confussed with The Testing of Eric Olthwaite (Denley Moor, 1934).

Eric Olthwaite is interested in precipitation patterns in West Yorkshire, shovels and black pudding (his mother makes pudding so black, that even the white bits are black). His family avoids him. His mother always gives him something to do the moment he starts talking, his sister Irene simply tells him to shut up, his father pretends to be French in the hope that Eric won't talk to him or fakes a bilious attack at meal times.

One morning, Eric discovers that his family has left him. He tries to talk about it with his girlfriend, Enid Bag, but she’s too busy having an affair with another man. Her father, a vulture keeper, tells Eric what his problem is: He’s boring. He advises him to make something out of his life.

Eric tries to start at a bank, but the manager tells him that he’s too boring for the job. Eric’s about to leave when the bank is robbed by a man called Arthur, who takes Eric with him. They run for it and manage to escape. Arthur is about to shoot Eric, when the two of them discover how much they’ve got in common: They’re both interested in rain, shovels and black pudding.

They decide to form a gang together. In a pastiche of Bonnie and Clyde the pair are shown carrying out daring raids to capture rain fall records.
Their new fame actually makes Eric interesting. Enid joins them, Eric’s mother and father are interviewed about him and in the end, Eric Olthwaite is appointed mayor of Denley Moor.

Mark

I remember Ripping Yarns with Michael Palin, I thought that all sounded rather familiar.
A great show but I don't think they made that many episodes did they?

Nice to be reminded of it, I think I was still a schoolboy back then when it was on.

Thanks for that

Adam

I think they were made in the mid 70s, after Monty Python had finished. I love 'em!

The episode titles say it all really:

TOMKINSONS SCHOOLDAYS
THE TESTING OF ERIC OLTHWAITE
ESCAPE FROM STALAG LUFT 112B
MURDER AT MOORSTONES MANOR
ACROSS THE ANDES BY FROG
THE CURSE OF THE CLAW
WHINFREYS LAST CASE
GOLDEN GORDON
ROGER OF THE RAJ

and I think that's all they (Palin & Jones) made.

They are on a DVD set...eBay has plenty!

Thanks for that Mark,
That's when I took a 6 month job in Munich; I stayed for a bit longer
you don't possibly know the title of that set do you?
I can usually find a cheap supply from "Amazon" here..
Oh dear more money. I've only just got the "The Traveling Wilburys" DVD set & not got around to playing it.
That's it, must get going, there's a "Fly in" of old & rare aircraft at Oberschleißheim airfield.
Doubt if the Vulcan will make it though

Cheers
John
