Hey Jim,
You have caught me just down the road from Knockhill racing circuit. Its 10 min's from my house & I do appear to have moved a little closer to home.  www.knockhill.com/

Cheers!

Jim, regarding +2s, I would suggest grouping them separately from the regular Elans, not homogenizing them in. I think most people consider the +2 a different car regardless of the common origins. No implications about superiority or inferiority, just different.

Hello again, I agree with Rod. The Plus Two is a seperate vehicle. Lotus built an Elan, and about four or five years later built an Elan Plus Two. It is that simple.
I made some silly remarks earlier in this subject which remain my personal observations.
We're talking about two different cars here and neither are babies.

I have added my car to this excellent website. :D Only thing is... now I think my S4 might be a '69 not a '68 if all chassis were produced in sequence... :?

Jim,

Love the stats page and map, thanks for all your work.

I'm surprised to see that more Elans are registered in the States than in the UK- more than twice as many, and if you add Canada almost 3 times. Anyone have an idea what the original number/ratio of Elans imported to North America were?

Steve

If you go to my Sprint web site (address below) and the Production Data page, scroll to the bottom and there is a link to all Sprints produced by the factory. It is broken down into types, including the two Federal types for FHC & DHC. It will give you some idea of the proportion of UK, European and Federal numbers produced during 1971 and 1972.

In general, the reason there are more Federal Elans listed on Jim's site must be because he is based in the US and his site would, I presume, come up earlier in any search engine results for North America, whereas European search results would produce the Unibrain site on later pages.

Either way, Jim's registry has lain dormant for too long and it is great to see many more enthusiastic contibutors to it as a result of this topic. Well done Jim!

Tim

I prefer to think of it as our registry. If it was Jim's registry it would have one car in it.

I've been thinking about the next set of features and am going to do two things. The first is the often requested picture upload. Adding the pictures has caused me to rethink the "Add Car" page thus leading to the next change. I'm going to force some data validation when a car is added. I'll open a separate thread on the validation idea.

Adding the +2, either as a separate view in the data or mixed in, is going to come after those changes.

Great Job !!!! how to rebuild what Lotus Co. has missed.

Just registered my car.

Some "years" are not in accordance with the VIN-chassie number; ...as 1970 when chassie is 7108...

Best compliments.

Jim,

Kudos to you for organizing "our" register. I appreciate your philosophical approach to the openness of the registry even though you did the work!

Having said that, there are some really obvious errors as I scroll through that make we cringe, like the first registrant that has an Elan from the year 0966 rather than 1966. I would encourage each registrant to check his or her entry for accuracy and typos. Some of these entries are many years old and the cars may no longer be in the possession of the person who entered that data, so the next question is this: Is it possible for you as administrator to fix some of the more obvious errors? I would even be willing to do a first cut scan and list them, or take a shot if given a password and the accompanying trust. Just trying to help, Jim, as the resource is more helpful if really accurate.

Thanks for letting us have this resource...let me know how I can help.
Ross

Jim,

Nice site! Just registered my car and look forward to watching the site grow.

Thank you for making the effort to keep it going.

Best regards
Fred

Jim,

Help, I have lost both my user name and password to access the site. I used to have a bunch of post-its stuck to my computer screen which helped, but I haven't sat at that computer for a year now since retirement. I'm sure what ever I had, had meaning to me, so I'd like to get it back, make up a new post-it for my home computer.

Please reply back off list to RLSieling at yahoo, com.

Roger, owner of 45-7380 etc
