Hi all

I'm planning on keeping the "normal" springs in my car but would like to lower the ride in 1".

In this case how much would the front and rear springs measure in length when taken off the car?

Thanks

In the Workshop manual, the front springs are listed at 16.08" and the rear at 14.71".

I replaced mine a year or so ago and the original fronts actually measure 15.5". I chalk that up to 35 years of compression on the car.

Hi

I've just looked in the Dave Bean's catalogue and what they recommend for -1" is:

Front: 13.5"
Rear: 12"

I want to keep the standard front 1.9" ID and the rear 3.68" ID.

Should this be OK?

Thanks

Doesn't sound quite right, but I don't know for sure. Ask to speak with Ken Gray at Dave Bean - he has a 69 S4 and is very knowledgeable and helpful.

The free length of the DB springs they quote for lowering are based also on a higher spring rate for fast road or competition use. IF using standard spring seats and spring rates but want lower height you need to match the shorter spring when free and spring rate to get the target loaded spring length that is shorter for your 1 inch lower end result. Needs a bit of geometry and load and spring rate calculations.

If you search the archives I remember a previous discussion that detailed how to do this

cheers
Rohan
