Tall Block twin cam in Spyder chassis

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Sat Apr 04, 2009 12:52 pm

Am dry-fitting a tall block engine into my Sprint's Spyder chassis.

Seems like the old engine mountings will not line up with the holes in the chassis mounting points.

Does anyone know if that is the case, and the solution ?

Regards,
Stuart.

The new mounts don't line up any better, I need to file fit the mounts as only 2 bolts line up at a time.

Thanks Gary,

I'll look through that link to see if there's a solution.

Just to be clear:

I'm swopping out a big valve standard block twincam from my Sprint for a tall block twincam.
I'm trying to reuse the perfectly good (virtually new, uprated TTR mounts) that I fitted to the Sprint.
The chassis is an early Spyder.

It "seems" there is a width issue between the early and later block.
Could that be right ?

Until I resolve that, I cannot check for bonnet clearance.

Regards,
Stuart.

The solution is to file the engine mounts a bit with a 1/4 inch round file. Custom fit if you will...

Hi
The 1600 ford blocks are approx 1/4 inch wider at the engine mounts than the 1500/lotus blocks. The spacers between the engine mount and block need to be shortened

Gary / Dave, thanks.

Does it matter if the adjustment is made by slotting the holes on one side only,
or by halving the adjustment, and slotting both sides ?

Equally, can I just shorten the spacers in one go, or should I shorten the spacers and slot the opposte mount equally ?

Regards,
Stuart.

I believe that the extra width was added to the exhaust side mounting bosses.

Can concur the 711m block as longer bosses on the exhaust size.
adjust the spacers to suit!
