The Sprint rebuild story so far

PostPost by: graffiti » Sun Feb 03, 2008 4:02 pm

After purchasing a Sprint and then stripping it down and finding it had been in a bad shunt, the decision was taked by my brother to give it the Spyder treatment.

It's now on a Spyder chassis, the body has been resprayed original colours, the Zetec engine is just getting fitted as can be seen in the photo.

A bit of re-positioning certain bits had to be done because Spyder mainly supplies chassis's for plus 2's and MRD have made some great improvements on their design. All the old parts have been kept, just in case he ever sells it and the purchaser wants to put the old engine etc etc back in??

The end product will be down at Donnington in March if anyone wants a chat about it.

Nice conversion so far. I especially like the body colored engine bay and the fact that you left the inside of the nose black presumably to keep the body colored engine bay from being seen through the grille. Also, the graphics are superb. You've obviously paid a lot of attention to detail. Where did the intake plenum come from? Did it come with the Z-Tec? Keep us updated and keep up the good work!

Some more photo's on progress,
Dashboard wiring almost completed, drivers door hung, Petrol tank and battery in, boot lid on. Radiator should be in this weekend. Engine starts, 180 BHP sounds awsome....seats in at the weekend,

Not too far off being finished now!!

Looks stellar. And this from a purist. I like the neatness of the remote clutch/brake reservoir.

Looks very nice job and has given me a push to get on with my sprint

Lifted the body today - v pleased to find excellent spyder chassis with no damage - body needs lots of work though

Next job is to strip down, clean, paint, rebush, suspension, brakes etc whilst body is away for about 6 weeks

regards

Glad it's encouraged you to get yours sorted, all being well I'll post some more pics in about 2 weeks time, should be pretty well all together by then.

Well it was MOT'd and Taxed yesterday. A few more bits to do before it goes on show at Donnington this weekend. All that's left is badges and a good clean up.

All in all I think the sensible mods made are a real tribute to Chapman and we're extremely please with the end result.

Anyone want to meet and talk about it at the weekend will be most welcome.

I can see this being the number 1 for us now so I think the Plus 2 has to go so if anyone is interested in a very tidy yellow one let me know!!

Nick

Very impressed with the finished job and even more impressed with the speed with which you must have worked at over the last month to rewire and retrim!

Look forward to seeing your car at Donnington.

Have seen this superb job today.

You have to be really picky to find fault, but hey the guys just got it finished to get it there. Had a good chat about the build, it is something I would like to do, just to have something a bit different.

Definitely NOT for the purist though.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it, I know we're pleased with it.
I can safely say this is one Elan Sprint we're definitely going to enjoy driving for a long time to come!!
