QED 420 Cams

PostPost by: Fraggle » Wed Jun 29, 2011 4:14 am

Hi all.

Anyone bought and used these cams?
I am at the final stages of a full rebuild restoration of my +2. Just wondering if anyone has used the QED 420 camshafts for a road going vehicle. The bottom end will be fully balanced and the top end set up to big valve specs. I am currently looking at these cams for extra HP/Torque but am concerned about idle speed and how managable these cams will be for road use.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Cheers

Hi Fraggle,
You have learn about the "Search" button...
The Q420 cams are quite popular... and I am still happy with despite their roughness in the traffic.

Hi Christian.

Thanks for the reply. I did do a search and found that post as well as another one relating to different cam mods.

Though it goes into the technical details, I really wanted to know how the engine would react on the road, i.e at idle or in traffic. Having owned a car previously where the cam was "too lumpy" and a nightmare in traffic or at idle (the car had an automatic gearbox which made the problem worse), I did not want to return down that same road (so to speak!).

Your reply gave me the answer I was afraid of. Maybe it is better to stick to the standard cam's and just put the bigger valves in.

Cheers,
Jason

The benefit of the Q420 cams is too important for me, and that aspect is forgoten each time you give "full trottle"...
Just make sure to be back home when the roads are free, that's it!

We always have them for sale, new or re-profiled:

Incidentally, if everything is setup correctly, they should be fine in traffic. We provide jetting info for Weber and Dellorto 40/45's with the cams, along with the timing figures.
