Honda S2000 engine and box

PostPost by: JonnyPlus2 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:58 am

Hang in there Dave, I'm hoping to do this mod to my car in the next few (OK, less than ten) years. I'd be highly interested to see how it comes out. Very sanitary bit of fabrication on the remote shift relocation.

BTW, which side of the pond are you on ?

Jon

Had a spare few hours today so decided to offer up the engine and box to the chassis.

Original engine mounts removed and section cut from the front box section that will be welded back up when the strengthening is carried out.

The oil filter will need a remote fitting and a new exhaust wil need to be fabricated.

there should be no height issues as it is the same height as the T/C on my Sprint

I'll fire up the TIG welder next week and put some strength back into the chassis. Not as drastic or difficult as the Insane +2 chassis mods!!

I am in Wales in the UK (wet side of the pond!!)

Hi Dave,

It's looking great. Can't wait see it after you've tossed the power steering pump and the a/c compressor. Will you make up your own exhaust manifold ?

Do you have a link to the Insane Plus 2 chassis mods ?

Too bad about you being located on the "wrong" side of the pond. Otherwise I'd be bugging you to let me come over for a look.

Hi Jon
As well as the oil filter on the Exhaust side needing to be moved the thermostat housing on the other side will need to be altered to point forwards.

I've removed the A/C pump but may refit it as it might appeal to some to have A/C in a fixed head!!

The power steering is electric so no pump on this engine.

I need to work out the engine mounts next to get the exact position prior to making the exhaust system.
Cheers
Dave

Dave, Will it be a Londa, a Hontus or just a Rotus Eran?

Hi Pete
Not sure what I'll call it but will be interesting to see how it compares to J. Lenos fastest ever Elan!!

He will probably have about 220/230bhp from his alloy blocked T/C at around 8K rpm.

The Honda gives out approx 240bhp and goes to redline at 9Krpm..

Its going to be fun anyway thats for sure.

Cheers

Oh yes!

We'll need a video with sound when that engine's at full chat in your Elan---------------Magic :D

May mean a trip to Germany for an Autobahn thrash though

Are you planning to have a very big front spoiler to stop front end lift?

Cheers
John

Hi John
I want it to look just like the original Shapecraft 26R but feel it will need some help so I have an Audi TT rear spoiler that is electric and will be moulding a section above the rear lights that will pop up at the touch of a button.

I will probably modify a Europa front bib to suit the Elan but I do have the original mould from GS Cars for the front spoiler they used although I'm not too keen on the shape. Maybe I should fit a retractable splitter to the front as well.

Thats all a way off at the moment but hope to make some more progress over the coming weeks.

Cheers
Dave

Phew, the TT rear spoiler sounds like a project in itself. I'm having a job visualising it from your description but no doubt all will become clear at a later date.
Alan (Spyder fan) used a Europa front spoiler for his Duratec Elan & I think it was a fairly simple mod.
Maybe he can confirm the suitability at high speed.
I think that the Elan gets very front end light at just over 130 MPH

Cheers
John

Hi John
Spoiler pic below. It is electrically operated and I will be removing the top plate and fitting a section moulded from the area between the rear of the boot and above the lights. Under normal driving this will be folded down then when needed will be raised to add some rear downforce.

Also did a bit more on the ex manifold this afternoon.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

Nice work on the headers, looks like you used the Honda exhaust flange and made your own pipes. How did you bend them ?

I'm thinking that you're going to need some sort of front splitter at speeds over the ton. Do you have any plans for one ?

Keep up the good work. This is waaaaay more interesting than Leno's build.

Best,
Jon
