Elan S1 Hardtop windscreen fittings

PostPost by: Certified Lotus » Sat Nov 17, 2018 3:05 pm

I am in the midst of restoring an early Elan factory hardtop for my 64 S1 and am in need of the fittings that secure the front of the hardtop to the windscreen. CY on this forum was kind enough to send me detailed photos of his restored hardtop and included a photo of one of the chrome screw fittings that was not OEM but looks to work for the purpose intended.

Does anyone know about this screw fitting and where it might be acquired?

The last time I checked, given it was a while back, Dave Bean was selling the screws.

I’ll check with Ken at Dave Bean. Looked at elantrikbits site and didn’t see anything?

Dave Bean does not have the entire fitting. Just the thumb screws.

are these clips an after market safety accessory or did they actually come with the top? My Lenham top only has the angled fiberglass leading edge that tucks into the top of the windshield frame. That with the two rear attachment points are all that is necessary to keep the lid on. I can't see where these clips do anything to hold down the top? Can someone clarify for me?

….but they are pricey. Knowing what I do now I'd have fashioned them myself.
Col supplies the correct imperial thread, TTRs hardtop uses a metric thread.

See the following for a discussion/photo of the fixing clamp:
