Hard to find Plus 2 parts

PostPost by: rodsandyachts » Wed May 03, 2017 11:43 pm

Hi forum

I'm struggling to find two parts for my '73 Plus 2:

Dash headlight switch (the one that pulls out to operate the headlights)
Door check-strap - a metal slide that links the sill to to door bottom

Does anyone know where I can get either of these?

Thanks as always. This community is so great.

Hi Simon,

This side of the pond both these items come up on ebay every now and then. Not sure if the light switch is common to any other car but the door check straps are, they came from a Rover P6.

Chris.

"Dash headlight switch (the one that pulls out to operate the headlights)"
If it's just the knob you need which made of plastic and breaks, try Rimmer bros UK Triumph Herald light switch
part n°704885

the check straps were from the rover p6 IIRC and are readily available

Hi Simon,

There are some stainless steel check straps on eBay (UK) at the moment. They are being sold by Sean at Spyder Engineering. Perhaps a call to them would help you?

I'm just re-entering the +2 world but did Lotus keep the same vacuum switch for the whole +2 range? I have one but I shall be needing it for my project. Sorry. Modern alternatives have been discussed on here before. Again, I think Spyder has an electric headlight kit. No connection to them, by the way!

Good luck,

Pete

The headlamp vac switch in the dash was an electric switch by 1973 I think.

Correct, was toggle switch on dash with solenoid to control the vacuum to the right of the radiator.

Not a toggle switch but a turn and pull switch - turn for the sidelights, pull for the headlights, electrically operating the solenoid for the vacuum valve

My 73 (+2S130/5, in dash four fuses) has a straight electrical toggle switch. Which I thought applied to all S130, which all 73 cars were (?).

I, probably incorrectly, thought all cars with the solenoid had the simple toggle switch.

Of course this isn't that helpful to Simon...

I didn't think any of the 'S' +2's had a toggle switch, it was either a pull & turn vacuum switch with micro switches incorporated or a pull & turn simple electrical switch ? However, it seems what Simon is looking for may be found here http://www.lotuselan.net/forums/lotus-parts-f33/parts-t39373.html

Regarding missing parts, I don't seem to have a gear lever, does anyone have a spare one for sale please, all I have is a short threaded stub sticking out of the top of the gearbox. It's a four speed gearbox and originally had a black lotus badge on top of the knob.
