Lotus Elan

S3 inner door opener

PostPost by: mdf » Thu Jun 21, 2018 7:12 pm

The inner door latch lever on my S3 is broken. Does any one out there know what the cross reference is for this part.
Or where I might find one in the US?

Thanks

Do you have a picture? There are two different types, if my memory is correct!

Mine looks like this, and I believe they were sourced from the Hillman Imp.
I don`t know if this helps except possibly to eliminate one type.

The Lotus part number is 036B0299. My guess is that it is a convertible top latch from some sort of British sports car. The question is which one.

Any suggestions out there....

Visit this website...www.vintagecarparts.co.uk for this item: 7W-961208-B - interior handle

Cannot remember what it came from...an old Austin perhaps, but anyway it is this part that has an angled face ground off at the top & then the rear part that fits onto a square shaft has 3-5mm shaved off so that it sits closer to the door trim......then a split pin holds the handle onto the square shaft.....cannot remember if you need to drill a hole or not....this is the type of handle that was introduced for the "Super Safety" spec Elans and this is the correct reproduced part......they are not handed so order two & then get machining.......good luck & let us know how you get on....

Adam:

Thanks. That appears to be the correct part. It does, however, seem to require some modification to work.

Yes that is correct, it does need some modification work but that is what Lotus used to do to them so you will be in good company there.....

I have to do the same to a pair I have bought......I think the angled bit & probably the back part reduction were modded on a grinding wheel......when comparing my "original pair", both were slightly different depths & angle which would mean that they were probably modified by eye........

Let us know how you get on.....
