I have a screen taken from a Scimitar GTE. Same as a Plus2. But I am in Plymouth which is a long way from Gravesend and it would be difficult/impossible to dispatch by carrier with any confidence it would arrive unscathed. Some carriers, I know, are unwilling to accept a windscreen for carriage. So..........what to do?

Hi Geoffers,
Thanks for the reply.
The laminated screen I have is from a scimitar but is too thick at 7mm to fit in the later plastic trim. Could you possibly measure the one you have and let me know the thickness,
Thanks,
Mick

Mick am I correct in thinking Gravesend is not far from the Isle of Sheppey? The people who make the classic screens are there.. You could pop over and get a new one?

Mick, I've measured the thickness of the screen and it varies very slightly between 6.4 and 6.6 mm, so probably too thick?

Geoffers,
Thanks for checking but it appears to be the same thickness as the screen I have. Probably OK for a rubber screen surround but too thick for the plastic surround as it doesn't fit in the surround glass channel so very difficult to fit properly. Once again thanks for checking, I am now wondering if all laminated screens are thicker than toughened glass ones,

Stuart,
I have just emailed Sue to ask if she can check the thickness of the screens she supplies as the surround I have suits a screen of maximum thickness 6mm.
It appears that screens from Reliant Scimitars are too thick for the bonded screen trim,

Hi Mick,
surely whoever supplied you with the Trim can supply a Screen of the correct thickness.
The cars were fitted with laminated from new.

What has "Uroglass" got, ask them and they will ship i know.

Alan,
I contacted Sue Miller and she was very helpful. Sue went to the trouble of measuring a laminated screen she had in stock, which was 6mm so about 1.5mm thinner than the old Scimitar screen I have. I shall be ordering a top tint screen from Sue,

Hi Mick,
well done you'll get there and it will be a good job with a little forethought.

About 5 years ago i went from where i live in France to buy a TVR 1600M in Chatham which i knew needed a Windscreen. So before i went i contacted "Uroglas". I was lucky and they had in stock a Heated Windscreen from a batch run they did for a group of TVR owners. Also they had a delivery in London near where the TVR was, so dropped it off there for me. The Windscreen on the Elan +2 is the same as TVR "M" series ex Ford Consul/Capri/Classic + Scimitar.
