Lotus Elan

1974? Elan - Pistachio? S4

Hoping it gets here to Ontario, Canada soon. Nice unmolested car, it will be the 10th Elan I will have restored, it will be a keeper!

The bad news for me, I may have to sell one or both of my other Elan’s, a 1968 S3SS recently restored Coupe and or, my original paint 1969 S4SE DHC that I have had for almost 35 years, it is wonderful car.

OK, i'll start the argument...…

Don't restore it!!!! Keep it original!!!!
I, like others, absolutely love unrestored original cars. "they're only original once"! anyone can have a restored car, but few have very original cars. Clean it up, get it running and driving, detail, and show it...…
it will get more attention at a car show than all those "mint" cars will.

now, i'll go and hide....

Tedtaylor,

No need to hide, I should have been more specific, mechanical only, a good buff and clean with new top.

I agree with you, I am currently doing similar on a 1954 S1 Land Rover.

Regards,
Alasdair.

That looks like a great buy Alasdair, and will sit alongside your super-original Lotus Cortina very nicely!

A great buy, I haven’t seen an Elan Sprint for sale over here for that kind of price for a very long time.
Kindest regards

Alasdair,

Congrats on your purchase! Glad it's staying in the fold.

This was a steal, 0295k sold a couple of years ago for $42k in similar condition.

My son just bought a documented S4/Sprint in the UK for £18,250 and will do a sympathetic restore/refresh on it. Trouble is it had had a really bad paint job and osmosis so it will have to have the shell done.
He has his hands full as he has a 49 Pre-Series 1 to do as well.
