It's true, he's the man and he really knows what he's doing.

This looks to be the very best you will find. Nick is a credit to the Lotus world.

The alloy in the early die cast heads was much better than the later sand cast heads.

It would make an interesting road engine, especially on a long stroke crank 1700 cc block setup. The smaller diameter inlet runners of the Mk1 heads would help with torque and combined with the high lift short duration QED 420 cam and the right carb and exhaust setup you will get an amazingly strong pulling engine all the way through the rev range.

If your building a Lotus Cortina or early Elan and want to have the original head type this would be perfect.

cheers

Hi Rohan, Al and Dave

Here's one Nick prepared earlier...

About to go into my S1 GTS car - 711 block, 1680cc, 420 cams and ported inlets, early Mk 1 head.

Dyno says 148bhp at 6500 rpm and lots of torque,130-135lb-ft all the way from 4000-6000 rpm.

Nick does a great job.

David

Thanks for the dyno curve. I have been playing with computer models of this style engine for a while as I am planning to build one for my plus 2 and I have not been able to decide on head and carb setup. The dyno curve of a well prepared small port head will help calibrate my models better :D

cheers

Rohan - not the best image of the curves, happy to do a better one.

Should be running in 10-12 weeks and will report - have S1 with 360 based c130bhp TC and another with 150bhp standard block to compare with so will report on torque...

I am planning a similar build, 1680 tall block with QED 420 or similar cams. Would this torque curve be suitable for a C/R gearbox and 3.55 diff?
Thanks,
Chris :)
