Looks like a nice car, but price appears above current market?

Yes, overpriced (IMHO).

I would have expected to see a new dashboard for that money. The temperature gauge looks unoriginal, too. But it is a very beautiful car from the (very high quality) pictures, so maybe someone will buy it.

Been on sale for a month or two, expect it will stay that way until they get real on the price.

Nice car and nothing wrong with trying your luck on the price a bit but nothing that makes that car worth much more than 50% of the ask.

If it sells I'll probably need to up my insurance coverage...

I wonder if the new owner believes he got a bargain based on the Gooding estimate. So now he is trying to cash in.

I believe that would be called a "presentation price", the actual price not being disclosed after the sale but leaving the new owner with the feeling of having had a fruitful negociation.

As for the seller, I bought a car from Mark H more than 20 years ago, properly priced and just what I was looking for, I remember him as a real gent and he even sent to me later a box of spares he located afterwards. Of course time has passed since then, and apparently he has become quite succesful at pulling his trade up.

The current seller Mark Hyman is a very well respected vintage car dealer. Look at the other vehicles on his web site. No junk there!!!! His prices are on the high side but then again, he is still in business decades later. Yes, he purchased the Plus 2 at auction just recently but he has a keen eye for quality and a bargain. I know the person that entered it in the auction. It was a "No Reserve". The Elan was owned by a good friend of mine who owned the car for many, many years and it a true enthusiast. I purchased a 74 Europa Special 5 speed from him decades ago. He knows his cars very well is also very well respected. The Plus 2 is one of the nicest in the country. Buy it, enjoy it, and drive it.

It reminds me of a story. Another friend of mine owns approximately 28 collector vehicles. Some extremely valuable such as a 56 Mercedes Gullwing, a 57 Mercedes 300 SL, a 1925 Roll Royce tiger hunting vehicle, etc. I was at his 80th birthday party and someone asked if he ever spent too much for a car? He said, absolutely not, although there were a couple of times I might have sold too soon.

Seems like quite a lot of money but in the limit a nice looking and well specced car with complete history is worth what a seller can get for it!
