Elans in magazines, new magazines that is...

PostPost by: elansprint71 » Thu Jun 23, 2011 6:41 pm

Let's not get inundated with "old stuff" but I thought it might be interesting to see how often the Elan still gets a mention in magazines- starting from today. I'm guessing hardly an issue goes by.

Classic & Sports Car July 2011 has a rather daft comparison test between an Elan S3 (allegedly with "big-valve BRM head") and a Reliant Scimitar SS1.
Oh yes; in the Lost and Found section some bloke from Wilmslow has dragged a sleeping S4SE out of hibernation.

Octane August 2011, August? It's only the 23rd of JUNE! This issue sees Jay Leno singing the praises of the Lodus Aylaarrrn again in his monthly column. He owns two.

ELAN VALUES GET SET TO EXPLODE, screams the title to a half-page piece in Classic & Sports Car September issue. According to this the 40k Elan is not too far away thanks, in part, to the 50th anniversary.
There is a good photo of two very nice Lagoon Blue Sprints at Matty's.

I never see the magazines that are invariably referred to in these posts so they are slightly frustrating.

Do you think copyright issues would be raised if someone scanned them in a month or two ?

Ralph.

Well here we go again!

The latest issue, November 2011, of "Classic & Sports Car" has just dropped through the letterbox.
Front cover story:- TOTAL LOTUS Top drivers cars from 4k
Every key model tested, from Seven to Elise, Elite(Mk14) to Esprit.

In total 11 pages with plenty of pics.

Got to be a must have for most on here.
The +2 does not get a mention, which is not only a shame but a major omission considering the title!

Cheers
John

Is there any chance of me getting a copy of that article someway?
My copy of the magazine must be stuck somewhere in Germany due to my recent move.
(October edition did get here OK though)

I don't really want to pay the extortionate price for a back copy of a magazine that I already paid for.
Reply to my question from C&SC:- "Tough T-tty" or words to that effect

Cheers

John,
It's almost typical that the +2 is ignored. Perhaps they can't bring themselves to compare it with it's smaller sibling or simply write it off as a variant.

Kindest regards

Also in the latest issue another Shapecraft comes out of hiding... yawn.

This one has been chopped about a fair bit, unfortunately. I think Dave Hughes knows the full SP on it.

What on Earth were you searching for when you found that?

That question was rhetorical, please don't answer

The description sounds remarkably like someone I know. What do you say, Rick?

Silence is golden....

The latest issue of Classic Cars has a two-pager on Kelvedon Lotus and guru Pat Thomas (why does he look younger than he did 20 years ago?).
He's bought back his old Modsports Elan, which was an S3/4 crossed with Formula 3 mongrel (not 26/R as suggested by the writer) it's headed back to the tracks in the much-overdue revival of Modsports. :D
Also shown are two Lotus 47s.

Sorry for lack of feedback, but I've been overwhelmed by the response. Am slowly working through all the photos...when SWMBO isn't around!

OK.

"Classics Monthly" November 2012

Lovely S1 Elan (71st produced) matched up against a Tornado Talisman. (Their bodies shared the same space in development!)

Interesting bit of history...and verdict!

Cheers - Richard
