Origin of the Thackeries?

Came across this in Des Hamill's book on Coventry Climax.
Bearing in mind Harry Mundys later involvement with the design of the Twin Cam, I thought it might tell us where they originated from as he was at C.C. at the time.
(And I recall it being suggested that the washers were there to prevent the nuts being over-tightened..... )
If you like engine type stories from the good old days I can thoroughly recommend Hamill's book. Got mine from the Book Depository.
Cheers
Ralph.

So you should be able to answer the current question in the little Christmas quiz.
Cheers,
