regarding synthetic oil I have a question ..
I have a proper Holbay H120 lump which came out of a chap's Ginetta G21 rebuilt for fast road /race & he ran it on synthetic oil & when I took off the front cover noted that the timing chain tensioner ,which was made out of some sort of synthetic material , was softened up and the chain was tearing into it . rather put me off synthetic oil & I replaced the tensioner with another . Am i right in thinking the synthetic oil was the cause ? . I gave it a can of duckhams the other week....i.e are there potentially rubber/ plastic parts in our classic cars which are incompatible with synthetic oil ?
