Air filter assembly

PostPost by: Davidb » Mon Nov 21, 2016 9:38 pm

I spotted this on ebay:

Since I am missing the cold air box for my car I am considering this-with a cold air hose to it-has anybody any experience with these filters?

Any comments?

There's quite a few threads on here about airboxes and air filters. I read them all earlier this year.

My S3 had the original backing plate and airbox and also trunking and filter housing. All leaked air like crazy. Lots of gaps. I tried to get them all to play nicely together without success.

Now replaced with later style S4 backing plate and air box plus a clivey boy K&N filter kit. Engine pulls better, isn't sucking in rubbish, and it all looks good in the engine bay.

Very happy.

Thanks Steve. I searched and found this which seems quite relevant and informative:

The possibility of fire in an Elan is alarming! I will save up for a 26R style cold air box I think.
