Hi all, found my webers have loads of crud everywhere. Cleaned out as much as I can but some of the galleries are still blocked solid. Been reading about drilling out the lead plugs so thought I'd give it a go, my question is to replug do you just melt the lead and drip into the hole? Is it really that simple?
Thanks Alan.
Thanks Alan.

No!!! As far as I am aware you use lead shot of specific size & a punch.

Have you tried cleaning the carbs by putting them in a saucepan of water with descaler for kettles.
Then heating it up.
Then heating it up.

To clean them I used cleaner from a m/bike shop.
To seal the holes I taped them and put a grub screw in with thread sealer.
Cheers

I would think after tapping the holes they would be flushed and blown out with compressed air
At least if there was any debris in the carbs at a later date they could be cleaned out easily.

ah memories!
when i broke through my lead capped channels (procession channels isn't it?) i found compacted red silt ... probably from arabia, or maybe elsewhere . no chemicals would have flushed it ...
I used a small drill bit and pulled it out and used a tiny bit of lead came ( from having repaired leaded light stained glass windows). You don't melt it ... just cold peen it in with a hammer . lead shot would do the trick if you're a fisherman !

I practised first on an ally plate, and best results was using a punch larger than the hole trying to plug. I found some lead flashing and that definatly better than fishing weights. So now I've done the carb. much easier than I first thought. Bit more cleaning up to do yet as I can see some corrosion down the bores where the emulsion tubes etc go.
