Braided Fuel Pipe

The way Lotus Marques say don't use ethanol fuels suggest we have a choice! Their article was interesting though, it's reassuring to know that at least some suppliers actually know what the chemical properties of their products are. Sadly all to often, when these kind of questions are asked at parts desks a blank look and a "well it wouldn't be on sale if it wasn't up to the job, would it?" attitude is the result.

On my 26R I used the black material braided outer with teflon lining, its very flexible, very light and very expensive but is inert and you can buy nice period looking anodised fittings.

I recently fitted stainless braided full pipe from std engine driven fuel pump on road a car and found that on the dyno the braid allowed the pipe to heat up to the point that I could not touch it, which I expect will have an effect on its working life and will monitor it at each service. Its also very stiff, I ended up covering it with spiral wiring protector to stop it rubbing on plug leads etc.
