S1 and 2 dash trim

PostPost by: chrishawkins » Sun Jan 15, 2017 7:18 pm

Just thought thought I would share some pictures of the trim I have added to the S2 dash on my S1.

I made it from some B&Q aluminium tile trim :D

Nicely done. Can you show a section of the molding?

This is the stuff I used

http://www.diy.com/departments/diall-si ... 935_BQ.prd

I cut it down the length removing the piece with the "DIALL" text leaving the ribbed part and the small lip. I have enough to do another dash free to anyone who can collect from Bracknell

I got a small roll of glove box trim for an MG TD that worked out well for me. I'll post some pictures when I get to that phase on the restoration I am currently working on.

Where did you source the trim? Can you show us what it looks like?

The other thread was my inspiration. I had been to Moss to look at the MG TC/TD trim but could not justify the price

Rod's thread was really interesting.

Chris your car looks really nice, did you restore it yourself? More photos are always appreciated. How long have you had the car? Do you know any of it's history?

Having owned a TC, when I realized I needed that strip I immediately thought of the MG T series strip but was absolutely flabbergasted [gobbsmacked? :D ] by the price. That strip would be the perfect answer but we need a spy inside Moss to find out there supplier. Can't believe a wholesaler or manufacturer would rob one that much.

Is it #57 on the drawing? If so, $229 seems absurd!

Neat job, Chris, bet you sweated over the bends!

Decades ago I used a bit of Esprit or Elite/?clat trim cut down in the same way; but being a plastic material, like the original, it too cracked up after many years. But it's Wednesday tomorrow so I get 10% discount at B&Q!

Edit: Does anyone know if Rod still lives? I met him a couple of times at Goodwood Breakfasts and he wasn't too fit. No posts lately.
