Fitting carpet to sill panels

PostPost by: William2 » Wed Apr 27, 2016 3:38 pm

I am in the process of fitting new carpet to the hardboard inner trim panels that cover the sill area, etc. I have found a slight problem when it comes to Evo sticking the carpet edge to grp the inner door sill edge. When you try and push the rubber door seal over the grp/carpet it tends to unstick the carpet and push it down. I have briefly tried using a sharp Stanley knife to remove about 1/2" of the carpet pile but it isn't a very satisfactory way of doing it. Has anyone found a method or a better tool for this carpet edge removal?

Someone on here said he used hair clippers to shave the pile down. Sounds funny, but probably quite a good method.

I have used a single edge razor blade to shave carpet in situations like that. You can tape or clamp a stop to the razor blade so it only cuts maybe 3/8" down from the edge.
Trim the carpet as if shaving it.
It will take a while but it works with a new sharp razor, might be worth having several new ones on hand as they dull and become harder to cut smoothly.

Thanks for the tip about using a razor blade, it worked a treat.
