Headlamp Pods, need a bit of work!!

I've just had a look at the headlamp pods on my Elan and as with pretty much all of the parts I've recently removed, yes they need work.

Question...shouldn't the bolts that serve as stops for the headlamps have a rubber cap to stop damage as has happened on mine? I would hazard a guess this is common.

Yes, the bolts need a rubber cap. I made some up for my +2 with circles of rubber and super glue. You may still be able to get the original ones but I am not sure.

The speed that the headlamp pods go up and down can be regulated by restricting the vacuum pipe that goes to the vacuum pod(s) with a clamp. I use two flat plates and two bolts on my single pod, and have set the air flow for a 3 second rise and fall. No more cracking!

I thought there must have been some sort of rubber/closed cell foam protection, i'll make some if I can't find anything suitable..
Must admit they did go with a bit of a clonk when raised and lowered.

Looking at your video ......
The holes in the pods below the headlamp units are drain holes for when the headlamps are up ... don't glass those up !

Ahhh ok.

The hole in the offside pod didn't look like it was purpose made! and the one in the n/s has a metal brace covering it, so I assume it must have split, that will need repair.
