To paint or not to paint ....

Hi all
I'm in a quandry and need some advice please.
I have a LR galvanized chassis on my Plus 2 barn find, its stripped down to a bare chassis now. The galv coating is fine but patchy and inconsistent in colour, light grey, dark grey and almost black in places.
Before starting the build up process I'm tempted to paint the chassis. If I do what current products do I need to use? I'm guessing a clean/degrease, prime and then topcoat?
The chassis dates from the mid '80s so there'll be no surface contaminants left over from the coating process.
Any thoughts please?
Andy

the process has been addressed on the forum previously : as I understand the galvanization is more than 1 year old, it should be straightforward to cover once cleaned and degreased. I would prime and coat for the looks since it's easy at this point.
