Plus 2 interior boot question

PostPost by: Dieschelan » Sun Oct 21, 2018 9:24 am

Hi

I have a question about the interior boot. The brace between the two sides of the boot (number 10 in the picture) are fitted directly to the body or between the body and the brace are the felt and carpet?

Regards

Diego

Mine are fitted over the Felt and Carpet.
I will go into the garage and take a photo.

Mine is a 1968, I assumed from your upload, which shows the early boot lock, yours was also an early car.

I am sure that someone with a later car will answer your question. :D

For the later say 71 onwards Plus 2 I will confirm that the square boot support goes directly onto the fibreglass and the underfelt is cut around its shape and glued to the rear wheelarch. If the underfelt was underneath then you will find that the hinge support will not line up or give as much support.
I have recently refurbished a coup[le of similar cars and both were the same. I will add that the small boot support brackets were fastened through both carpet and underfelt.
I will try to work out how to add photos one day

Maybe my 70 was built at the time of the transition from round to square material. Mine is square tubing and was bolted through the felt and the fiberglass with the felt crushed down to less than half the thickness.

When I reinstalled the brace I bolted it directly to the fiberglass without the felt. I didn't use spacers to compensate for not having the felt. The hinge holes are large enough to allow adjustment of the hinges. In my case there was enough adjustment to mount the hinges and adjust for an even gap around the boot lid. Only the hinge with the boot lid stay and light switch bolts through the brace. The other bolts through fiberglass only.
