Position of sump with respect to cross member

To give me more of a clue as to why my engine is sitting too high and hitting the bonnet I would be grateful if any of you guys could peer under your elans (S1 - S4/Sprint) and see how the bottom of the sump pan looks in relation to the bottom of the main chassis cross member. At present my cross member is lower than the sump by about 1/2".

With a straight edge from the front cross member to the thin cross channel section behind the engine mine has the front of the sump 1/4" above the bottom of the vacuum chamber and the back of the sump approximately level with the thin cross member. So it appears that my engine is 1/4" lower than yours at the front. Not a lot but even mine is close to the bonnet. 1967 Series 3.
