Rear Lense Screws

PostPost by: carrierdave » Tue Nov 18, 2008 3:01 pm

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what the screw thread is for the rear lenses? I have a couple that need re-threading.

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

After quite a bit of research a while back, I found they were 6.32 UNC. The link below is to one of the few places I found that sells them in stainless.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Thanks for that Alex. I take it that they would also do for the front lenses?

Hi Dave,

Not a problem. I would imagine they'd do the fronts too, but then they may have been made by a different manufacturer so may be different.

The original screws are nasty, nasty, nasty! I have chewed half a dozen screw heads, which I then have to drill out, and hope that I can unscrew the remains, and pray that it doesn't snap flush with the lamp shell, which a few have... I do not regard myself as hamfisted, but it happens despite care and DW40. I will be considering stainless from now on.

Thanks Alex!

Jeremy

PS anyone tried drilling out screws from the lamp base?

Thanks for all the help. Just got my tap through the post and it worked a treat.

I have purchased a number of the screws over the years and they continually go rusty. I thinks its down to poor quality chrome.

I had one of the new screws snap off recently - fortunately i had enough to get hold of with a pair of mole grips. If I were to drill it out I think the best thing to do would be to clamp the base on a pillar drill and drill from the back.

This way you may avoid snapping off the drill.
