Red Letters on an Elan S4SE dash.

Hi,
I need a little hepl please, I have a S4SE Elan on webers, with red lettering on the dash board, does anybody know anything about they ie why red letters and how many are there?

You car also looks to have recessed gauges which may mean it was a SS (Super Safety) version destined for the US market originally.

My S3 SE FHC (36-7297, September 1967) came with a rocker switch dashboard with red decals. It also had red seats, door trims and centre console. It now has a new dashboard with white decals -- I could not get any in red.

Many thanks, I will go through the posts, does anybody know why Red Lettering and what it signifys if anything?
All the references seem to point to S3 while this is a early S4 SE.
Does anybody else have a red lettered Elan or have they all changed to white over the years?

I always thought red lettering was for the SS Elans and that some early UK S4 dashes had red letters, probably as the factory used them up.

I was recently told that it meant the return of weber carbs for the US Market?
