Screw sizes please

Hi all. Can anyone tell me what type of screws, and what size and thread, are used for fixing the sun visors and the interior mirror on my 1971 Sprint fixed head coupe? This sort of information is sadly lacking in all the manuals, even Buckland's manual.

I don't think there's any corresponding nut or bobbin buried in the headlining so the exact thread of the screw doesn't matter, which is maybe why you can't find the specification. When my visors became slack (a long time ago so my recollection isn't perfect) I filled the existing holes with woodfiller and used, I think, countersunk woodscrews of a suitable size. By suitable I mean thick enough to just go through the holes in the visor and about 3/4 inch long.

Thanks for that idea. I've had a look in the holes with a tiny penlight and there does seem to be a thread in there. So I reckon there could be bobbins with small UNC threads, but I would like to know for sure.

I dont know what size they are but I do know that both my S3 FHC & my Sprint FHC have self tapping counter sunk screws holding them.

Just so we know what I am looking at, here are photos of the two locations. The holes in the mounts for both are about 3/16".

Mike, looks similar to my Plus 2.
The Plus 2 parts book calls up for the sun visors four No.10 screws, 1/2" long. Part Number KSTS1008 'decodes' as Flat Countersunk, Self Tapping, Screw, No. 10, 8/16" long.
The Plus 2 parts book calls up for the mirror two No. 4 self tapping screws, 1/2" long and two No. 6 self tapping screws, 1/2" long. The part numbers DSTS0408 and DSTS0608 'decode' as Raised Head Countersunk, Self Tapping, Screw, No. 4 or No.6, 8/16" long.
Maybe someone with an Elan Parts Book can better firm up the correct screws for your car. Ray's on-line parts book shows four DSTS1008 for the sun visors and four DSTS0408 for the mirror, which decode as above to raised head counter sunk self tappers.

I believe there are just wooden blocks bonded into the roof that the self tappers go into.
cheers

That's all tremendously helpful. Thanks to all. I'll dig out my box of assorted self-tappers.
