Were Elans made LHD ready??

I don't know the original color. I purchased the car in an uncompleted restoration status, and the body work was finished. There are some issues with the previous work, and a complete respray probably should be done. However finding the original color may be near impossible as the body was covered with fiberglass cloth rather than veil/tissue and some imprinting is visible. I am currently happy with the car being a "driver" quality, not worrying about nicks/chips, etc., at the present time. So, I have added it to the future to do list. I may be able to discover the original color at that time.

Has this always been the case with the +2, Europa etc........and what about the more modern Lotus?

The Europa was originally created as a car for the Continent, not the home market (hence its name). So they would have been LHD from the start.

My 1969 Federal S2 is set up to go either way, but by then they had relented on the home market.

No, but it appears to be very similar to door card/package tray board as used in most American cars in the '50-'60's, so you might try an upholstery supplier or local trim shop. The original certainly was not oil resistant. I replaced it on all my Elans with either an alloy panel bonded into place, or simply glassed over the holes.
