Window Tint

Hi all,
As the front and rear screens of my '69 +2 are out I?d like to have them tinted for: a) UV protection b) It embellishes the car/looks cool etc...
Looking at the original catalog shows a darkish green tint, was this the only tint that was used? I'm not that keen on Norfolk Yellow/Green tint/Black interior. Does anyone have a photo of this combo? Should I just go for a medium black tint?
Moving onto the practical side of the application, the door cards need to come off for re upholstering, so removal of the side windows shouldn't be that much of an inconvenience, but what about the quarter lights?
Will their surrounding rubbers need to be replaced after?
If so are they hard to source?
Should I listen to my dad and let the car be?

Jan,
All depends on the condition. "If it aint broke don't try and mend it" is a good adage. If you are not happy with the way it looks then change it, if you know what you are doing!! If not then leave it be or give it to some one who does. Window quarter light rubber is hard to get hold of and a sod to change. Again windscreens are awkward if you don't know what you doing.

I am pretty sure the tinted glass originally came in the one shade, universally known as Sundym throughout the UK motor industry. Probably a Pilkington glass brand name.
This was a reasonably light green colour. You get a fair idea of it by looking at the side of a sheet of glass.

well the front and rear screens are out as we speak, so it would be the side windows and quarter lights that would need removal.
Am I correct in interpreting "being a sod to change" as hard to change?
I was not going to apply the tint myself, it was going to a local specialist. being located in Malta means that the car is subjected to UV indexes ranging from 9 - 12 for 4 months of the year, this has destroyed almost all the plastic in the car (crash pad, courtesy lights etc...), a non tinted film is also available should i wish to have the protection but not the tint. so i guess it's down to taste.... I'll have a peep round the 'net and see what i like, failing that i'll stick to a not tinted film on the main screens. thanks for the input guys

Hi,
Just had my frames apart for re-chroming. I could not find the quarterlight rubbers anywhere and reused my old ones, luckily they were not in bad condition but I would have liked to replace them with new. There is another problem with the quarterlights that has been well documented here, the metal channel that runs under the glass, it tends rust away and may need replacing. These to are were unavailable but Peter Mallison on this forum had some made, he may still have some. I used them , they needed a bit of tweeking to fit but are well worth the effort.
Chris.

my rubbers seem in good nick, and i might not need to change the channels as my car has such low millage (about 10,000 miles!) and was not exposed to the elements, however if they do need changing, fabrication of parts is extremely cheap here. so it looks like I'll take the whole lot out, have a look at the tints available and try go for a dark green tint

Jan,
I don't suppose that by any chance you know Ivan Azzopardi? He lives on your little rock.
Cheers,
Pete.

no i don't seem to know him off the top of my head... although he's probably older than me (i'm 26) i could probably place him if i knew where he works/ who his family is/ what mischief he's been up to.
it is indeed a small place.
