Engine number advice

Would like some advice before I put pen to California DMV paperwork.
On my engine, above the side mounting boss, is the engraved engine number. My block is a 120E. The number on the block is engraved 122 then underneath is another 5 digit engraved number. Is the 122 some sort of model number?? So for those who have gone through this here in the left state of California, for DMV purposes, is the engine number the total 7 digits or the 5 digit under the 122. You only have one shot at California DMV to get it right, then it can turn into a nightmare.
Also replacing the data or vin plate in the engine compartment, is the consensus still that most were hand engraved??

Hello Mike,
Call me this afternoon if you have a chance. I sent you a photo of my vin plate via email. The vin plates were hand engraved. The CA DMV does not accept "/" in a VIN, so it is entered on the title and registration as a "1".

Not sure why you need the engine number. I don't think the CA DMV needs this. What they want is the VIN number.
Looking at the CA registration application they only request the engine number for a motorcycle.
Also, apparently the CA DMV is not consistent in how they treat the "/" in our VIN numbers. For my 69 S4 SE they simply ignored it: "45XXXX"

I can't imagine why the DMV would want the engine no. What they want is the same number you signed under your name, 36/5706.

Yup, you guys are correct............I did not read the fine print on the California DMV form. Engine numbers on MOTORCYCLES ONLY.
The city I live in has a service to verify the VIN numbers so you don't have to haul the car anywhere. And luckily the guy is known for "I'm not crawling under there, just read me the numbers". So hopefully he will just go with the flow. The numbers on the frame are barely visible.
Thanks guys,
