No record of that registration being used currently with either the DVLA or Cazana.
For our era of cars, take the last two letters of the first three digits. They represent the district licensing office where the car was first registered. Full lists are easily found with a quick Google search. That can even give you an idea of which dealer was likely to have sold the car. For example, almost all of Bell & Colvills Elans were first registered in Guildford.
Then take the final digit letter, after the numbers. That gives the year of registration. Again, a quick Google search will reveal which letter indicates which year.
So DGY 182C breaks down as: GY = London South East; C = 1965.
JGF 129D breaks down as: GF = London South West; D = 1966
