Rattly door handle S4 - replace or fix

As much as i love rattles this one is starting to annoy me.
The RH door handle pull (its the locking kind not the simple pull handle) shakes about a bit and rattles and is staring to drive me nuts. The LH one doesnt make any noise. Suspect the spring is just a bit tired and so the handle is not being held firm against the surround. Does anybody know if I can just get a new spring? I don't mind the cost of a new handle (four candles please) but seems a waste to chuck something just because it rattles
Thanks!..

Is this the handle button you are referring to?
I'm surprised you can hear it rattle as its on the exterior of the car, but definitely possible to replace the spring. From memory its a compression spring about 8mm diameter and 15mm long. Getting the handle off is a bit of a faff though.

The 'flap' that unlocks the door does have its own return spring that normally keeps the flap flush with the metal surround. As your flap is not retracting fully you need to determine if it is a broken spring, or whether the linkage behind the trim is distorted in some way and is pushing the flap out.
If it takes virtually no finger pressure to push the flap flush then the spring probably is the culprit.

The spring is not a part I have ever seen for sale, in fact the only complete interior lock assemblies I've seen recently have been secondhand ones. Virtually identical units were used on some BMC cars so that might be a route to investigate.
Best to dismantle yours to double check whether it is the spring itself or whether its just slipped off one of the abutments (not sure it can do though)

I wouldn't wast time trying to fix faults with these - just replace the whole unit. They are regularly on Ebay - MGB/Marina and pretty cheap usually. I bought a pair for a few quid not long ago, "brand new old stock" and I'm sure I've got a few serviceable secondhand ones lying around too.
One here for ?14 or less:

Ah ha! That's what that piece of rubber is that's on the floor of my car. Thanks Chris.
