Seats and grumpy tradesmen

The seats in the Sprint are really nice, just 52,000 miles, but not quite, absolutely, you know, perfect, and the rest of the car almost is. The ones in the S3 were getting tired, a small split, bent frame and just a bit scruffy. So searching down the back of the sofa, emptying old trouser pockets, and looking in drawers, I found 27p and three and sixpence, and put this towards new seat covers. I put the Sprint seats in the S3 and ordered the covers from Sue Miller which are a bit more than eight and ten pence.
Having spent so much I decided to go the extra mile and have them fitted professionally. 3 recommended auto trimmers were so grumpy, making out they`re doing me a favour really reluctantly that I just can`t be doing with it. What is it with these people these days? I`m sure we`ve all come across similar characters.
Mr. Google told me about a small company at Bollington, which is a nice drive from here, so I put the seats in the back of the wife`s Golf, calling in, while passing, at Riverside Engineering at Whaley Bridge where I take the Elans, as does Garethelanman and an increasing number of pals. He recommended a firm at Denton but suggested that he strip the seats, do any frame repairs, repaint the frames, and take them there.
He did, they`re perfect, and he`s not grumpy. Nor am I, well only a bit.

Probably more profit margin in "supply and fit" than just fit. Hence their reluctance, plus no guarantee (from their point of view) that the covers you supply them will fit as well as ones they would make.....

No, the grumpiness seems to start with; "Hello, I wonder if you can help me?" standard grumpy reply is; "we`re very busy, what do you want?" said in a gruff accusing manner.

A few years ago i had a similar experience up here in north west England.
I had a Mk1 Escort Twin Cam drivers seat that needed the webbing replaced.
The first two places i tried wanted me to leave it with them and they would, quote 'fit it in when they could'.
When i dared to ask about a timescale i was told 'a few months mate' !
I didn't leave it.
