What do you guys think of this car?

OK Tim, good memory.

Being rebuilt w/ a replacement body and frame makes sense. Back in the 80s -90s all you could get to replace a damaged car were S4 parts. So, it may be titled as an S3, but with a complete S4 body, it has lost all identity as a S3, save the tail lights. I would imagine an insurance job in 1990.

Is the VIN a 36-xxxx coupe?

To me its an S3 body by virtue of round wheel arches and rear light clusters plus bonnet underneath doesn't look like an S4. Should it not be flat with no raised pieces across it. I had an S4 Stromberg Elan with the bulge but it was smooth underneath. Can't swear to it but I thought the Weber S4 had same bonnet as my Sprint which is also flat. Can't quite make out on photo but to right of silencer there is a recess which I think S3's had whereas S4 was flat with just the bolt that holds the petrol tank in place.
