Alternative wiper system?

PostPost by: 661 » Sun Oct 14, 2018 1:12 pm

Has anyone used a stronger, more efficient wiper system?
I'm building a GTS car so originality is not essential.
I saw on 'Project Binky' a Peugeot system being modified for the Mini rebuild.
I suspect a Peugeot 208 system may work and allow bosch wiper arms which would be less likely to come adrift and have stronger arm springs to keep the blades near the glass!

What about no wipers?

Here in So Cal, the sun has deteriorated the wipers so that on the one day a year it might rain, the wipers are ineffective.

I use a product called RAINX, it is a hydrophobic coating for the windshield that repels rain drops almost as effectively as wiper blades.

Store the wiper blades in the boot for the odd ball time you might need them

Thanks David, I find RainX a very good product, but it doesn't allow you to see in a rainstorm travelling at speed.

Hi,
I have kept the same system but fitted the motor from Excel / Jaguar.
I did see a single wiper system on here a long time a go - I think from a race car - chap from Norway

The unfortunate thing that RainX does is make it difficult to impossible to get a good chip repair done. The same ingredient that repels the water repels the repair material. Halfway through the repair to my motorhome windshield, the glass guy turned to me and and said "You use RainX. This repair is going to show. I can't do the final step due to the RainX". He was right on both counts. I was using RainX and the chip shows. So far it hasn't spread.

A customer has a slightly modified M100 wiper assembly in his 2 seater elan, seems to work well.

I thought the same when I watched that video.

Given that lotus was owned by gm during m100 development they probably standard gm parts and likely easier to source by finding the donor cars.
