Elan Sprint Radio/ Speaker Option

I was given this a while back by a friend who worked at Lotus in the late 60's/early70's. He said he had 'liberated' it from the factory parts bin to put in whatever it was he was running at the time, but never got round to it & it had sat on a shelf in his garage ever since. He gave it to me for my +2, as he said it was what would have been fitted to both Elans & +2's originally, but he only had the one, so I've never used it either as the +2 needs a pair. I only have his word on the back story, but see no reason why he would make it up. It is identical to the original equipment speaker in my 2000E Corsair, but the grille cover is black & not chromed in the Corsair.

I have something similar but in black, with a different speaker underneath. Never heard of Elac, but interesting to see that they're still around.

Elac speakers were used in many places, many old household radios made in the 1950?s and 1960?s had their speakers in them. They were usually elliptical and had a paper cone, most were 4ohm or 8ohm. If you really want the original type speakers try looking in old house radios at car boot sales! You?ll probably find some.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine!
