Fitting a Brantz - EMI suppression

PostPost by: terryp » Sat Jul 30, 2016 2:16 pm

Currently fitting a Brantz and it's not working due to EMI
Has anyone fitted one and if do what did you have to stop the interference?
Currently I have no suppressors and have lumenition optronic. Plug leads are solid with NGK suppressed ends.

Thanks
Terry

What are the symptoms ? erratic zeroing ? freezing ? number jumping ?

I personally had the zeroing problem with a 2S Pro, after xx km, the totals or the intermediate distance went to zero.
Brantz told me I have either EMI problems or bad voltage.
I tested the voltage part, I used a 7Ah battery as supply of the Brantz. Did not work.
And I could not believe the EMI theory.

The tripmaster got hot. The problems arose usually after one hour rallying at hot days.
We adopted the strategy of switching off as soon as we did not need it. Worked.

So I cut a few lines into the plastic body so a bit of convection would get the hot air out.
Never no problem again.

Terry are they suggesting this is interference coming down the 12V supply (coil or alternator noise )or radiated interference. Try connecting to a seperate 12V battery if this cures it would suggest it is coming down the supply. Email me the connection diagram I will give you some suggestions to try

Thanks for all the replies ....... But I cured it!

Fitted a temp suppressor to alternator - no difference
Fitted a temp suppressor to coil -no difference
Wired direct from battery - no difference
Separate battery in boot !!!!!!! no difference

Suppressed plug leads - yippee!

Just have to get some decent leads as these were an old spare set I had

Really funny as symptoms were, top trip counting on its own, both going blank, both zeroing, freezing, being completely random.

Rally is in September so just have to calibrate it now!
Cheers
