Help with dashlight and switch.

0a125ab4-bd03-4a59-82ac-cd2081f63d95.jpeg and
Learned Elan owners any help with the below light and switch would be appreciated. The red arrow points to a lilac/purple coloured light that seems to be constantly illuminated when the ignition is on. The white arrow points to a switch on the lhs of the steering column shroud. I know it's daft but I keep forgetting to actually try it until I'm away from the car! I notice the horn push was inop so wondered it it could be a horn switch! No mention of either in the (rather basic) +2 glovebox handbook.

It's a ?68 plus 2

Thank you
Bozzie

That?s a little strange. Mine doesn?t have that light, and no purple lights at all.

I did have a push button switch in a similar place, but the wiring made no sense and I removed it during the desire.

Has the car been fitted with a heated rear window? Could be the switch for that with a tell tale light in the dash.

Later cars which had the heated rear screen had a warning light in blue/purple so Brian may be on to something there.

Yes, there is indeed a heated rear screen so maybe that's it! I will check tnus out later when I'm with the car and let you know Am I right in saying the right side located indicater should be the only control on the steering column shroud?
Thank you

The early cars did have just the one stalk. It should control indicators, headlight dip and the horn.

Brian, are you saying the horn operation is via the stalk? That would probably be the reason why the horn push on the steering wheel does not work!
Thanks Mark

With one stalk on the right, this operates the dip switch, to/from the driver, the indicators, up/down and the horn by pressing the button on the end of the stalk. Some have added an electric screen washer and you may have a button for this somewhere. No light like that on my car on the original dash but my new replacement dash does have a hole there ready for something.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine!
