Smiths warning lights bulb type

PostPost by: JonB » Fri Apr 20, 2018 1:13 pm

Hi

Does anyone know what type of bulb is fitted to the speedometer's warning lams (indicator / fuel warning lights)? I know they are pretty small but I am not sure what type they are for ordering purposes.

It's a '73 Plus 2 S/130 by the way.

All the bulbs are listed in the Technical Data section of the Workshop Manual. Assuming it's the same as the 2 seater Elan the warning lamps are listed as 2W type 281

Replace them with equivalent and brighter LED versions, you?ll never have to replace them again.

Except - the bulbs fitted to my car are not that type. They are type 501, which are 5w glass bodied with wire connections ("capless", as opposed to the bayonet type 281).

Steve, those LED bulbs are expensive, but I can see the sense in it if my coloured lenses are a bit opaque (the blue and green ones are pretty poor even after cleaning with a cotton bud).
