S4 Front Springs

Hi.
I've read loads in the archive .. Drooping nose... Nose in the air!
The current springs on my S4 are too firm and she goes around with her nose in the air.
I want to have a standard suspension set-up with the car looking poised not high or low.
Should I buy early spec springs or the later ones?
Thanks,
Simon

Hi Simon,
I don't know if this helps you but according to the workshop manual the standard front spring is:-
No of coils 19.6
Wire dia 0.324"
Rate 75 lb/in
Free length 16.08"
Fitted length 9.22"
Longer springs were also available to increase front ride height:-
Free length 16.75"
Fitted length 9.86"
(Pt No 26C 010A)
Do you have replacement front shock absorbers fitted with adjustable spring seats ? If so it could be you just need to wind them down a bit.
Regards,

The manual simply says:- "Longer springs, which increase the front ride height to suit all market requirements are available from the Parts Division of Lotus Cars (Service) Ltd. These springs (Part No. 26c 010AAA) must be used in pairs when fitted as replacements."
Since there is no mention of corresponding longer springs for the rear, these spring will just raise the front of the car so my guess is that it has to do with headlamp minimum height requirements in one of the export markets - possibly the US ? Anyone out there know for sure ??

Roger

Same question was asked of the +2:
"I know they did and when they did it but don't know why or any other details? Front suspension springs changed from 0050C0010 to 0050C0010A Suspect it's to do with ride height/weight change? John "

Would the same answer be applicable?

For what its worth I find the TTR springs and dampers are excellent. The fronts are adjustable for both seat and damping so any replacement chassis imperfections are sorted.
The rears are also superb as you can adjust them in a matter of a few seconds.
