Parking brake handle

In cleaning up my parking brake handle I have a spring clip and I cannot figure out where it goes. If I put the tit in the hole on the case it just slides around. If I try to put it in the hole in the handle it is too tight to fit. So where does it go?

Thanks. That's what seemed best. Just added more bend to spring all all is good
