rear wishbone bush

PostPost by: autopia » Sat Feb 03, 2018 12:18 pm

As my diff is being overhauled I thought I'd use the opportunity to replace rear wishbone bushes.

On the inners, the front one was poly bushed but the rear has an unusual (almost rose joint like) three steel tube/two metalastic composition?

This wishbone end is threaded presumably to set up some toe in, but the poly bushes I've got for the inners won't I believe fit into the rear bush mount hole where the present bush sits, I think there's about 5mm difference in the diameter.
I believe the new polybush will fit the forward inner, am just liberating the old one but the rear is going to be a show stopper.

I'll try upload some pix but am wondering if these wishbones might not be originals and wonder if anyone can identify the rear bush and where I can buy replacements from, as I'm thinking they're not standard inners?

cheers

On my Plus 2, the rear wishbones are non adjustable and on the inside (chassis) end have the same size 'eyes' front and rear to bolt on to the chassis. Those look like a bit more sophisticated with the ability to screw the eye in or out to adjust the toe in - maybe aftermarket? Also look as if the metalastic bush has an extra crush tube installed - the inner thick one to fit it the bolt and width of the chassis brackets?

OK, thanks for the replies, any idea on where I might get the bushes for this aftermarket wishbone eye, the diameter of the hole is about 30mm whereas the front bush hole is 35mm and happily took the Polybush I'd bought to fit.

Any pointers welcome.

Looks like someone has modified your wishbones to accept rod ends w/ a pressed in sleeve to make the bolt size correct. Look in a rod end catalog such as Aurora, Rose, Alinabal etc. Then press the sleeve out and into your new replacement bearing.

Your wishbones have been modified by a previous owner, probably with the intention of being able to align the rear wheels correctly.

If you do a Google search for metalistic bush (metalistic is like Hoover for vacuum cleaner) you will find various companies selling similar items, and hopefully the size you need. A metalistic bush with an extra steel ring is less common, and is used to increase stiffness.

There is a possibility that that bush is not sold alone; the replaceable part may be the whole end piece, threaded to fit into the wishbone frame.
